The Unofficial 6th Man of St. John’s Basketball

During the final Pre-Game warmup, we chant the names of the starting lineup(followed by 5 claps) continuously until the player shows acknowledgment and proceed to move onto the next player. Traditionally start with Captain and Senior members of the starting lineup. If a player is coming off a big game you may make him an honorary member of the chant despite not being part of the starting lineup and you may chant his name first. After the players we chant for Norm Roberts.

Anytime Lou Carnesecca is spotted in attendance in the Arena. The next dead ball after the band plays(when the band is playing nothing can be heard except for the band) we chant Louie repeatedly (no claps just the name over and over) until he shows acknowledgment.

  1. Lets Go Johnny's / Red Men

    - Said once by the leader of the chant

     - Group follows with clap

     - Proceed through 3 more times

  1. Defense

    - Defense proceeded by 2 claps until the other team turns over the ball or we get the rebound

  1. Tip Off

    - 2 fast claps then one slow proceed this pattern until we score our first basket

  1. Hands Up

    - Hands up while we shoot free throws. Wiggle fingers when on opposite side of the court’s basket; keep still if on same side. e if basket made; silent if missed

  1. Count / Count Down

    - Count up or down from 5 when opposing team is shooting free throws. When finished the count yell, waive, do whatever

  1. Dele Shot Block

     - Dele, Dele, Oh, Oh that shot has to go. Oh no no no no no no (while waiving the Mutombo finger in tune to the Louie Louie song)

  1. Shot Clock

- When the opposing team’s shot clock is expiring we start the chant off by 3 seconds to confuse them hopefully forcing them to take a bad shot

  1. 1 Bad Call

-Just a Booooo is justifiable we love the refs until we see a pattern of bad calls than its war

  1. 1 Ref making bad calls

-Is he betting on the game? Did he get paid off? Chant Donaghy over and over again to let him know what we really think about him

  1. A Horrible Call

-A Noose, A Tree, Hang the Referee! Say it 3 times

-Nuts and Bolts, Nuts and Bolts, We, Got, Screwed
