Homecoming & Family Weekend is the formal campus welcome and splendid autumn tradition offering programs of fun, tradition, and activities for the whole family.  This annual campus event will take place October 8-11, 2008 and will include a carnival, athletic events, and several types of performances.

-Father James Maher

This was in the July 8th posting of Vice President of Student Affairs Father Maher’s new blog.

Jungle’s Response- Homecoming??? What in the world do we do for homecoming that offers tradition? Most students are unaware of the fact its even homecoming and nothing is done to make  it a festive weekend or anything to even embrace students. We have a carnival which is suited for an 8 year old not to mention the lines and overbearing security measures make it very unattractive to even check out. The only thing students look forward to is the cafeteria is always slightly better for parents weekend. Instead of meat surprise they actually serve some solid hamburgers. All for show though because the following Monday Montgoris Hall goes right back to Mont-gross Hall. So the Jungle pleads how about a big kickoff concert Saturday afternoon on the Great Lawn? Have a parade with Fraternity and Sororities floats. Get all the athletic teams out. Have a homerun derby at the softball field(right by the dorms) with BBQ all day long. There are so many things that could be done but aren’t. Nothing says homecoming like an inflatable jumping castle(no shoes allowed) and cotton candy machine(30 min from this point in line)
